Taoyuan International Airport (IATA: TPE, ICAO: RCTP) was formerly Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport, also known simply as Taoyuan Airport or C.K.S.
 The airport is a large international hub located in Taoyuan County, about 40 km west of Taipei City, Taiwan. The airport is the main international center for China Airlines and EVA Air. It is also home to TransAsia Airways, Air V and Tigerair Taiwan.
     In 2014, the airport handled a total of about 36 million passengers and more than 2 million tons of freight traffic, making it the 11th in the world in terms of international passenger traffic and 5th in terms of traffic in terms of international freight traffic. The busiest international routes from Taoyuan Airport in 2014 were Hong Kong, Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai and Seoul.
   
Currently, there are two operational terminals of Taoyuan Airport. Terminal 1 has 18 gates and is divided into wing A and wing B. It was opened in 1979 and reconstructed in 2012. Terminal 2 is also divided into Hall C or South, and Hall D or North. Terminal 1 and 2 are connected by two horizontal escalators connecting the vestibules from A to D and from B to C. Both terminals are connected by an above-ground shuttle. The airport is currently overloaded. Therefore, Terminal 2 is under reconstruction to increase the capacity to 5 million passengers.
The runways and taxiways are expanding to allow regular flights for the A380. There are some plans for the construction of a new terminal. Terminal 3 of the project will provide an increase to 45 million passengers by 2020.
